NRNA Donates NPR 2.38 Million to Mid-Western Nepal Flood Victims

Nepalgunj, 16 July 2016 – The Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) has provided financial relief to flood victims in Nepal’s mid-western region who suffered loss of life and property due to recent floods and landslides.

In response to an appeal made by the NRNA, Nepalis living across the globe contributed a total of NPR 2,386,562, which was handed over to the Banke District Disaster Management Committee for distribution.

The fund transfer was carried out in collaboration with the Lions Club of Kathmandu Intelligence.

At a special program organized in Nepalgunj on Monday, 16 July 2016, NRNA representative Som Sapkota and Lions Club President Santosh Khatri officially handed over the amount to Banke’s Acting Chief District Officer (CDO), Mr. Gunjbahadur MC.

CDO MC stated that the fund will be distributed among flood-affected families in Banke, Bardiya, and Surkhet districts based on need and verified damage. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to all Non-Resident Nepalis for their generous support during this difficult time.

Also present at the event were Members of Parliament from Banke Constituency No. 1 and 2, Mr. Devaraj Bhar and Mr. Dinesh Chandra Yadav, along with heads of various clusters under the District Disaster Relief Committee.

Speaking at the event, NRNA representative Som Sapkota emphasized the importance of transparent and need-based distribution of the relief, and requested local authorities to ensure that support reaches the most affected communities in all three districts.

Lions Club President Santosh Khatri informed that their club has been actively involved in relief efforts for flood victims in the mid-west and reiterated their continued commitment to humanitarian assistance.

The NRNA has been conducting similar relief efforts annually, raising and distributing funds for flood-affected Nepalis. This year, the association collected nearly NPR 6 million to support flood victims in Sunkoshi and western Nepal, which is being distributed accordingly.
